Bath Recipes: The Detoxifier

This bath works like a magnet to help pull toxins out of the body- the negtive charge of the betonite clay actually bonds with the positive ions in toxis. And the restorative minerals foun in clay and sea salt, as well as the alkalizing effects of baking soda, help purify the body. Using black sea salt, which is optional, has an added benefit: the activated charcoal from which it’s ade assists in releasing impurities. Power Ingredient: Bentonite Clay

Composed of aged volcanic ash, bentonite has been used as a detoxifier for centuries. It’s powerful stuff: after the meltdown at Chernobyl, Russian crews used bentonite clay to clean up nuclear waste. Long story short, bentonite clay is the real deal. When it comes in contact with a toxin, chemical, or heavy metal, the clay absorbs the toxin and releases its minerals for the body to use. In addition to being able to extract toxins, the clay contains nutrietnts including calcium, magnesium, silica, copper, iron, and platinum.

If you have a heart condition, have high blood pressure, are taking prescription medicine, or are pregnant, skip this bath. The Detoxifier uses bentonite clay, which may flush some minerals, vitamins, or electrolytes from the body along with the toxins. Therefore, do not take this bath after a heavy meal. Also, the clay may make the tub slippery, so be careful getting in and out of the bath.


Begin filling the tub with lukewarm water and add your stone(s). Once the stone is fully submerged, you can increase the water temperature to moderately hot if you’d like. (If you’re using a gem elixir instead of a stone, add it once the tub is about a quarter full.) When the tub is a quarter full, add the clay, followed by the salt and baking soda, and mix them into the water using your hand. (To avoid lumps, mix the clay in a separate container with warm water before adding it to the bath.) Once the tub is three-quarters full, stop running the water and carefully get into the tub. Use any excess bentonite floating in the water as a body mask by gently rubbing it on your legs and arms. Soak for no more than 20 minutes, redistributing any sediment that settles on the bottom of the tub with your hand. If you feel sleepy, dizzy, or uncomfortable in any way, stand up and slowly exit the tub. Once you are finished with your bath, make certain to take a cool shower, as you want to rinse off any debris and any toxins that may have been pulled out of your body. Drain the tub and wipe it clean, Remove the stone. Rinse it under water to clean, and dry with a soft cloth.
